Theft from Motor Vehicles

Dear Resident

Between Thursday 9th July and today, Friday 10th July we have received three reports of thefts from motor vehicles which occurred overnight.

These thefts took place on Oakmere Avenue, View Road, Mount Grace Road.

All reports show the vehicles have been entered by unknown means and personal items stolen from within.

It is important to take a look at the below tips, to prevent yourself becoming a victim in particular never leave personal valuables in your vehicle.

If you see any suspicious persons in the area or if you have any information relating to any of the above thefts, you can click the reply button at the bottom of the email, or by contacting the police on the non-emergency number 101.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers and steering wheel locks.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.

Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
